Compassion for Haiti

The U of T Mississauga Students' Union and student group UTM Red Cross are mobilizing to raise awareness and support in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12.

Student-staffed Compassion for Haiti tables will collect funds for the Canadian Red Cross mid-days until Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the South Building Meeting Place, the Communication, Culture and Technology building link, the Student Centre atrium and the North Building cafeteria. Tax receipts will be available upon request at the South Building table for donations of $10 or more -- interested donors should inform the Red Cross representative at that table prior to making the donation.

The UTMSU is hosting a vigil in the MiST Theatre in the Communication, Culture and Technology building on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. Professor Gage Averill, Vice-Principal Academic and Dean, whose research focuses on the culture of Haiti, is the featured speaker. The ceremony will include a handover of all donations to the Canadian Red Cross and a moment of silence for those killed and suffering as a result of the earthquake.

Any additional events will be announced on the U of T Mississauga and UTMSU webpages.
