Orchard reflects on legacy at U of T Mississauga

Outgoing Vice-President and Principal Ian Orchard will discuss U of T Mississauga's physical and philosophical changes during his term of office on Thursday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in the South Building, Room 2074, U of T Mississauga, 3359 Mississauga Rd. N.

Orchard, who steps down on June 30, will speak about The Little Campus That Grew: You Can't Get There From Here. Under his eight-year leadership, he effected growth in physical developments, student enrolment and increased autonomy from the St. George campus of the University of Toronto.

Seven new buildings either opened or are currently under construction at U of T Mississauga, enrolment almost doubled to 11,500 students and the campus gained a greater degree of control over its academic and administrative operations. Orchard, an insect neurobiologist, will return to the faculty ranks and continue his research and teaching at U of T Mississauga.

The lecture is part of the Canadian Perspectives Lecture Series, organized by the Associates of U of T Mississauga and the University of Toronto Mississauga. Now in its 25th year, the lecture series is designed to inform and educate, offer a historical perspective on current issues and introduce new ideas and technologies that shape everyday life. Funds generated through this series support student scholarships.

*Free parking available in Lot 5 for the duration of the event.
