:: Vision
Global Citizenship
The UTM Multifaith Association is committed to modeling inter-religious harmony and well-being at UTM. The nine Chaplains are here because of the vibrant religious traditions that are part of the UTM community; the chaplains serve those who are from any tradition through regular worship and other programs. Valuing pluralism and multiculturalism, Chaplains will educate tomorrow's leaders for global citizenship by actively encouraging dialogue and cooperation among the adherents of the wide variety of religious traditions on our campus.
Ethics
One's religious tradition and personal spiritual life can be the foundation of ethics for so many in the UTM community, as well as in the world at large. Chaplains will help nurture sensitivity to ethical issues and empower UTM's community members at all levels of the university to confront them effectively.
Community Service
Believing that faith must be applied in action, your Chaplains will encourage community service within contexts of shared religious values. We also recognize for individuals how often seemingly "secular" service is based on religious motivation; therefore, we will promote our own and others' participation in university-wide and community efforts of outreach and for justice.
Counseling and Conciliation
As chaplains, we acknowledge our unique role as counselor and conciliator at times of personal and community-wide crisis, from deaths to racial incidents. We will stand ready to assist any UTM person, group, or the university itself to re-establish equilibrium and experience meaningful growth.
UTM Loyalty
We have seen how a loyal spirit usually develops within particular communities at the university rather than generically. We will be actively aware that people who find strong affiliation with their religious tradition at the university also find their loyalty to UTM enhanced.
