:: Welcome
You're invited!
Whether it's in person, by phone, email, or the web, you are invited to come and explore what the UTM Multifaith Association has to offer. Whatever your background, whatever your starting point, come join others seeking to make a difference in their lives here on campus at UTM.
- Do most students at UTM continue to practice their religious tradition?
- Will there be any interfaith opportunities for discussion and service?
- What are the major ethical issues one will encounter at university?
The Chaplains at UTM try to take on and puzzle out the issues that really matter - in terms of personal fulfillment, commitment, and meaning. As the UTM Chaplain, I believe that getting a university education is much more than acquiring knowledge and preparing for, say, medical, law, or business school. It should be personally satisfying, challenging, and fun as well.
The UTM Multifaith Association will, during the school year, sponsor a wide range of activities, including religious services, an interfaith service, reflections, a monthly Forum on Religious and Spiritual issues, a Chaplain's Table programme - conversation with chaplains, faculty, and students over dinner - and weekly and seasonal worship events.
What else does a chaplain really do on campus? A lot of counselling. We are available whenever you need someone to talk to - to bounce ideas and feelings off of in confidence. You may, for example, go through difficult and important personal times, have issues with relationships, face tough ethical decisions, or have more traditionally "religious" concerns. We will always try to respond respectfully and non-judgmentally, helping you to clarify your own thoughts and sentiments and to come to your own decisions. We are available to you regardless of your religious tradition, or even if you don't ascribe to any one faith tradition.
Don't miss the chance to become involved at this creative, dynamic time in your life. I will be glad to steer you toward exciting opportunities upon request. I welcome you to UTM and want to help make what is sure to be a wonderful educational experience even more rich and complete.
Faithfully yours,
The Rev'd Jason van Veghel-Wood
UTM Chaplain.
