Kristina’s lifelong love for soccer led her to McMaster University, where she played for the varsity team on an athletic scholarship and completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences. In her fourth year, Kristina attended an exchange semester on the islands of Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. This experienced proved to be life changing and helped her decide that she wanted to dedicate the rest of her life to sustainability. Kristina completed her senior thesis in stable isotope geochemistry and paleoclimatology. She studied the oxygen isotope composition of calcium carbonates at low temperatures. Broadly, this field of research is used to estimate global temperatures throughout geological history.

Through the MScSM program, Kristina realized that her true passion lies within the sectors of clean energy and clean transportation. She has immersed herself in these industries taking on a volunteer role with Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE), receiving a bursary to attend the 2016 Association of Power Producers of Ontario Conference (APPrO), and winning the Ontario Energy Network Sustainable Development Scholarship.

She completed her MScSM internship with the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium and will continue working with them as a Researcher for a variety of low-carbon smart mobility integration and demonstration trials. Kristina also serves as an editor for the Journal of Sustainable Innovation, works as a personal trainer at the UTM gym, and is a Teaching Assistant for the Energy & Environment: Economics, Politics and Security course.
