Bio

Sara graduated in 2016 from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Science. Sara studied a wide variety of scientific topics to complete a double major in Biology and Medical Sciences at Western, however her outstanding interest in sustainability stood out when she completed several courses in environmental and ecological sciences.

During her time at Western, Sara enjoyed planning and facilitating events as an Orientation Program Leader. She also lived in residence as a mentor, providing guidance to foster a safe and inclusive environment for first year students. Sara was extremely devoted to her job as Head Racing Coach at the Lake of Bays Sailing Club. Having worked there for five years, Sara confidently tailored sailing programs for athletes of all ages and skill levels, and worked diligently to coach her athletes through skill building activities and motivate her team to succeed at national competitions. Sara received the Matthew Peebles Memorial Award in 2015 for her role as an inspiring ambassador at the sailing club. Sara’s lifelong passion for being on the water has played a tremendous role in her interest in sustainability.

For her internship placement, Sara worked with Learning for a Sustainable Future, a non-profit organization that works to integrate sustainability learning into Canada’s education system. As Program Assistant, Sara helped facilitate the delivery of sustainability education programs and resources to students and teachers across Canada. 

Outside of work and school, Sara loves staying active and spending time with family and friends. She has always enjoyed playing volleyball and tennis, and loves taking on new hobbies such as rock climbing, ultimate frisbee and photography.
