Bio

Rayan graduated from McMaster University in November 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Honors in the top 15% of the Political Science program and was recognized as a Golden Key International Honour Society member. Her focus during her undergraduate studies at McMaster University was primarily on International Affairs, Human Rights, Public Policy, and Environmental Issues. During her last year at McMaster, she conducted in-depth research on water policies, development and green growth in the African Sahel. 

During the summers of 2010-2015 & 2017, Rayan has had the opportunity to work as an Environmental Services Intern at Hatch. During this time, she has developed skills and interests in community engagement, corporate social responsibility reports, integrated management and in environmental management systems. 

Rayan also had the chance to work as a bilingual health coach. Her work experience helped her gain insight into how pivotal a healthy environment is to the health of individuals. Rayan, therefore, joined the MScSM program to acquire the tools, knowledge, and experience to help her face the world and alleviate environmental and social issues around the world. 

Currently, Rayan is conducting research on how Canadian natural resource companies engage with community development and Aboriginal communities. She has also examined the impacts of climate change in South Africa, waste mismanagement in Europe and analyzed the environmental impacts of the aquaculture industry. 

Rayan loves soccer, swimming, reading, sailing, traveling, and learning new languages
