Jacob SiglerMaster's of Mechanical Engineering

Queen's University

Jacob recently graduated from Queen’s University with a Master’s of Mechanical Engineering. Over the course of his graduate degree, he developed a passion for sustainable engineering, a highly innovative and rapidly growing field. Shortly after graduating, he earned the LEED Green Associate accreditation.

While pursuing his degree, Jacob had the opportunity to design, build and operate a custom testing apparatus for measuring a vehicle’s vibrational response to road roughness. He also worked with undergraduate students as a teaching assistant in a variety of courses, and especially enjoyed running practical engineering labs.

Before starting his graduate studies, Jacob worked as a mine planner for Vale in Thompson, Manitoba. His responsibilities included the daily development and production layout for two sections of the mine, as well as a long-term feasibility study. More recently he worked as a research associate with ESTA Consulting, an Ottawa based Management Consulting practice.

In his free time, Jacob plays volleyball, inner tube water polo and squash, and engages in various outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing and skiing. He has enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and helping to build sets for a local community theatre group.

Jacob is looking forward to gaining through the MMI program the managerial and business skills that will compliment his strong technical background and work experience. With this diversified skill set he plans to pursue a career using innovation to positively influence the impact that the engineering sector has on global sustainability.
