Jessica ConfaloneB. of Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering

University of Western Ontario

Jessica recently graduated from Western University where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering along with completing a sixteen-month internship at RWDI, a world leader in wind engineering.

Within the Civil Engineering program, she participated in the annual capstone project with her fellow students. She and her team worked together on a City of London development that involved the design, cost estimation and project planning of a pedestrian bridge to be located in Byron, Ontario. Jessica and her team placed third overall out of the fifteen groups of her peers. Outside of the academics at Western Jessica worked in various organizations and volunteer groups such as the Western Society of Civil Engineers, Engineers Without Borders and assisted first year engineering students in adjusting to university life through the Sophomore program.

Through the internship program at Western Jessica was able to work with certified engineers at a Wind Engineering firm in Guelph known as RWDI. While at RWDI Jessica worked as a Technical Coordinator assisted with creating miniature replica models of buildings, testing these buildings with a simulated surrounding environment in a wind tunnel and analysis of the test results to provide findings and recommendations to the firm’s international clients. Jessica interacted with various individuals within the company as well as clients via phone calls and site visits to address questions on a local and international level. This experience provided her with valuable insight to the organizational needs, structure, and development of an international company.

Jessica hopes that once the MMI Program is complete she can use the knowledge and techniques learned and developed for her own benefit and for the benefit of future managerial positions.
