Japnam PaddaHonours B. of Science - Biology

York University

Japnam graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. During her undergraduate career she placed on the Dean’s Honour Roll, and has been awarded two scholarships for outstanding academic achievement.

The highlight of her academic career was writing an in-depth critical literature review for her 3.0 credit honours thesis project.  Her thesis reviewed the distribution and decline of forest-dwelling woodland caribou in Ontario. It also contained a management portion geared towards policy makers, who may benefit from the synthesis for adaptive conservation purposes. The integration of science and management in this project heightened her interest in pursuing a career which combined both disciplines.

In addition to her studies, Japnam’s extracurricular involvements have strengthened her leadership and management skills. She worked as part of a management team in retail, where she guided associates in exceeding sales goals while minimizing shrinkage. She also worked her way up to becoming co-president of York Punjabi Association.

During her spare time, Japnam loves traveling and trying new cuisines. She has been fortunate enough to participate in a tour of Europe during the Summer of 2014. This has exposed her to different cultures, and has even sparked an interest in her pursuing a career on a global scale. Japnam’s goal is to make positive differences in the world by organizing research for management purposes, as well as brainstorming innovative solutions. With her experience, skills, and thirst for knowledge, she is excited to utilize her MMI to embark on a career.
