Alexander GasserB. of Life Science - Biomedical Sciences

Queen's University

Alex recently graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelors of Life Science Honours degree with specialization in the Biomedical Sciences stream. He has devoted his past three summers to pursuing research in the concussion field, focusing on recovery times for individuals in amateur and professional sports, as well as examining risk factors that may make individuals susceptible to post-concussion syndrome. Most recently, he has worked under the supervision of Dr. Charles Tator at Toronto Western Hospital.

During his four years at Queen’s, Alex volunteered at Kingston General Hospital, served as a tutor for high-school students through HY-School Projects and Endeavours (HYPE), and acted as a first-year orientation leader. Additionally, Alex contributed his talents as a student liaison for the undergraduate student-run Queen’s Student Undergraduate Research Journal (QSURJ), which publishes health science papers authored by students. Most notably, his involvement with the Queen’s Rotaract Club (an on-campus service club) exhibited his passion for provoking meaningful change. Alex co-chaired a humanitarian trip which brought thirteen Queen’s students to a First Nations reserve in Northern Ontario, fostering youth leadership development within the community. He appeared on Canada AM and Thunder Bay CBC radio to promote and fundraise for the initiative.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys playing beach volleyball, piano, and spending time with friends. He is a past Volleyball AAAA provincial gold medallist, and continued his passion for this sport through intramurals at Queen’s. He also enjoys travelling, with his favourite destination thus far being the Galapagos Islands.

The MMI program will allow Alex to gain valuable knowledge in business management, analysis, and policy. He aspires to combine these experiences in the program with his scientific knowledge in pursuit of a career in medicine or in the business sector.
