Carl is a graduate of McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Science, with distinction, majoring in Life Sciences. In addition to his studies, Carl was a peer-mentor for science students, a volunteer research assistant in the Infant Auditory Development Lab, and a member of the Golden Key Society for outstanding academic achievement.

Since graduating, Carl has gained experience working in the public and private sectors. Carl has been the Lab Manager for the LIVELab, in the McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind, an internationally unique research facility. In this position, Carl excelled in implementing action-oriented strategies, leadership, and dynamic technological solutions to meet the needs of the diverse facility. Additionally, as an IT Manager in the insurance industry, Carl displayed rigorous observation and developed sophisticated software to optimize the management of insurance for almost one-third of all taxis in the GTA. This experience provided valuable insight into the needs, organization, and decision making within a growing private company.

Outside of his career and education, Carl is an active advocate of mental health awareness and stigma-reduction. He volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he supported patients, and oversaw the recruitment, training, and coordination of all volunteers in the Mood Disorders Unit. In addition, he has been invited to numerous speaking opportunities, and has spoken to over 4,000 students about the need for mental health education.
