Anthony WongB. of Medical Sciences

University of Western Ontario

Anthony recently graduated with a Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences from a joint program offered by the University of Western Ontario and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.  He was awarded the Verizon $20,000 Scholarship, an international merit based scholarship for university students awarded based upon academics, and demonstration of leadership qualities in school and the community.

During his four years of undergraduate education, Anthony dedicated his time to conducting Cystic Fibrosis research at the Sickkids hospital.  Under the direct supervision of Dr. Tanja Gonska in the department of Physiology and Experimental Medicine, Anthony developed an innovative method to measure the pH of the liquid found in the lungs of patients; a crucial indicator of lung health.  Utilizing this technique towards personalized medicine, he was able to test various experimental drugs and their potential effectiveness of targeting patient specific types of Cystic Fibrosis.

In addition to his research interests, Anthony was also part of the Western Varsity Fencing team, and dedicated most of his time to mentoring high schools students applying to university.

Anthony plans to integrate his passion for healthcare, and the knowledge he gains from the MMI program to provide business solutions that would advance the healthcare industry.
