The Evolving Role of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) in the Canadian Drug Industry

While most Canadians are unaware that Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) even exist, they play a critical role in the drug industry.  PBMs make benefit plans work by providing affordable access to prescription drugs to millions of patients every day.   Unfortunately, with the rising cost of drug benefits, many employers are questioning their ability to continue to provide comprehensive drug benefits.  This presentation will outline the traditional role of PBMs and how that role is evolving to help payers (insurers and employers) continue to offer comprehensive drug benefits that millions of Canadians rely upon.

About the speaker: Michael G. Biskey is the President of Express Scripts Canada. He is responsible for building a business strategy that delivers value to clients and patients while delivering long term growth for Express Scripts Canada.  Prior to joining Express Scripts Canada, Mr. Biskey served as VP, Financial Services for IBM’s Business Consulting Services (BCS) division, the largest management consulting and systems integration business in the Canadian financial services sector.  Mr. Biskey earned an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Combinatorics and Optimization.
