Abstract

Many new graduates of advanced scientific programs are committed to pursuing a career as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the Biopharmaceutical industry. While this is a very challenging and interesting role, there are many other positions in Medical Affairs also worthy of serious consideration. This presentation and dialogue will provide an overview of the MSL and other roles in Medical Affairs.  Additionally, the discussion will highlight the importance of professional skills and networks and provide practical advice to help achieve one’s career aspirations.

Bio

Monica is the Director of the Scientific Affairs and Shared Services departments at Amgen Canada. She has almost 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in various departments such as Marketing, Medical Affairs Research, Medical Information, Medical Communications and Education, Regional Medical Liaisons and Patient Support Programs. Currently she leads a large department scientific staff who manage aspects of the drug commercialization process and support health care professionals and patients. Additionally, Monica is a sessional lecturer and course coordinator for the Selected Topics in Pharmaceutical Industry course in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Toronto.


Monica has in depth experience in areas of Nephrology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Bone Health, Oncology and expertise in brand strategy, medical planning and execution, performance standards and staff development.

Monica completed her BSc.Pharm from Dalhousie University and her PharmD from University of Toronto.  She has over 6 years of clinical experience as a pharmacist in the community setting and at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
