M. Yampolsky has a PhD in Mathematics from SUNY Stony Brook (1997). He held a position of J.W. Gibbs Instructor at Yale University in 1997-1999, and was a Visiting Member at the Institute des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques in Bures-sur-Yvette, France from August 1999 to July 2000. He joined the faculty of the University of Toronto in July 2000. He has held visiting positions at such institutions as IPAM (UCLA), ETH Zurich, Universite de Paris, Institute Henri Poincare, Independent University of Moscow, and IMPA.

Professor Yampolsky's research interests focus on the field of Dynamical Systems, and their applications. He has recently worked on the questions of theoretical computability and computational complexity in dynamics. He also has research projects in mathematical medicine and biology.
