During his first two years at university, Daniel Jayasinghe focused on academic life. The U of T Mississauga commerce student was looking ahead to a career in accounting and worked hard to load his resumé with great grades and industry related experiences. “I spent two years focused on school—I thought it was what the big firms were looking for,” he says. But when he was passed over for work placements, Jayasinghe knew he had to expand his horizons.
Pat Akey, an assistant professor of finance at the University of Toronto’s Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI), has been selected to receive the 2016 Rising Scholar Award.
Another year of academic achievement was celebrated by the Institute for Management & Innovation at the Innovation Complex. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and industry representatives were in attendance at the awards night - now in its second year.
The closing ceremony of the IMI Finance Competition was held on March 16 in the Innovation Complex Rotunda. Sponsored by Nvest, it featured roughly 100 guests, among whom were UTM’s principal Deep Saini and IMI director Hugh Gunz.
