REAL WORLD EXPERTISE & COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Tanya's interests lie in both Finance and Accounting, where she has gained global experience, having worked in Canada and South Africa. Tanya has worked at major accounting firms, where her responsibilities included training, both internally and for clients. She has also worked at small and large asset management companies, managing balanced funds, as well as specialist equity funds, with a particular interest in socially responsible investing. Her experience includes exposure to various business sectors, and she has been able to incorporate this breadth of experience into her teaching. Tanya has taught both Accounting and Finance at prestigious universities in Canada, as well as at clients in commerce and industry. Tanya also serves as a provincial reviewer for the CPA Canada Common Final Exam.

SCHOLARSHIP & RESEARCH

Tanya’s research interest lies in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). She is interested in finding engaging ways to enhance her students’ learning. Tanya has presented her approach of incorporating learning strategies in her finance lectures by sharing “Learning How to Learn” mini-tips with her students each week. More recently she has presented on her SoTL work relating to the development of student micro-communities through creating small student groups where students develop goals and have weekly discussions around the themes of wellness and life-skills.
