UTMM: The Centre of Excellence in Business Education and Research

At the Department of Management at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTMM), we do things a little differently. Commerce and Management students enjoy a combination of experiences unique in Canada — including world-class faculty, cutting-edge innovation in teaching, dynamic opportunities for experiential learning, and a collaborative community.

Our outstanding facilities and collaborative environment support a world-class faculty, dedicated staff and students, and active student organizations. UTMM faculty and staff are committed to providing dynamic opportunities for experiential learning. We constantly incorporate cutting-edge innovations in business education to prepare our students for long-term personal and professional success. Our students come away from our programs with a deep understanding of both theory and practice gained through enriching experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

Our Tri-Campus Model

Our department benefits greatly from the tri-campus system of the University of Toronto. The department works closely with the Rotman School of Management, where all of our tenure-track faculty members are cross appointed. Along with the other Management units of the three campuses of the University of Toronto, our undergraduate programs are accredited by AACSB, which is the most globally-recognized specialized accreditation that an institution and its business programs can earn.

Dedicated Teaching-Stream Faculty

Our outstanding teaching stream faculty come to UTMM with unparalleled professional qualifications and practical experience. They play a critical role in educating our students, particularly within the undergraduate programs. They also take a lead role in supporting and developing our students via a variety of extra-curricular activities, mentoring sessions and workshops, and in building and maintaining close relationships with accreditation bodies (e.g., the CFA Institute and CPA Ontario).

Experiential Learning

Outside of the classroom, program administrators and student groups work together to provide experiential opportunities that augment classroom knowledge and provide the insight and comprehension that can only be gained by active learning. For instance, our student groups compete in case competitions and consistently rank well amongst their peers.

Our undergraduate programs work closely with industry partners to develop innovative curriculum offerings that are responsive to the current business environment and mindful of the future. The programs also work closely with industry and regulating bodies, such as the CPA, CFA, CRM, and CHRPA, to create employment and engagement opportunities for students both during their time at UTMM and upon graduation. The business certificate and internship programs have solidified our industry partnerships and have created long-term employment opportunities for many of our outstanding group of alumni.

Community, Collaboration and Outreach

UTMM is deeply engaged with the local community of Mississauga, home to many Fortune 500 companies. We partner with our community employers on student engagement, networking events, and field trips, and collaborate with local businesses to establish partnerships and sponsorships. UTMM also give back to the local community through service projects including tree planting and food drives.

UTMM has a strong cohort of international students and works closely with the International Education Centre (IEC) and other representative student bodies to provide them with support. We work with diverse student groups to more meaningfully engage with our international students as we build on their current strengths and deepen international relations. We also offer events to assist international students with integration into the UTMM community and adapting to the campus environment.
