For many Muslim travellers, crossing the border in an experience charged with fear and trepidation. A U of T Mississauga sociologist is investigating how border security routinely violates human and civil rights, and the impact this is having on those targeted by heightened security measures.

Kil, a U of T Mississauga PhD candidate in synthetic biology who works with Professor David McMillen, bested all comers in the recent province-wide Three-Minute Thesis competition, a contest that requires graduate students to explain their research to the layperson in three minutes flat.

Professor Bryan Stewart, vice-principal, research and Shelley Hawrychuk, interim chief librarian, co-hosted the annual event, which highlights faculty who have authored or edited books published in the past two years.
