North Building reconstruction -- Backgrounder
- Multi-phase project that will replace and expand upon building’s existing footprint
- Phase A: four-storey structure that replaces south portion of two-storey building
- Total gross m2: 5,220
- Primary use of building: faculty office and research space
- Project start date: June 2012
- Scheduled opening date: September 2014
- Built by Eastern Construction Co. Ltd.
- Academic departments: Mathematical and Computational Sciences, Psychology, English & Drama
- Includes: improved theatre rehearsal space, classrooms, computer labs, office and research space, informal study space, expanded food services area
- Project provides improved quality of space; addresses current campus space shortage and accommodation for enrolment growth; provides new academic space in North, freeing space in William G. Davis Building for science expansion
- Phases B, C: not yet funded but are expected to include additional academic space for the humanities and student amenity space
