Campus birthday? Cue the cake pops!
Hundreds of students, staff and faculty crowded the Meeting Place on March 29, gathering for a celebration of the campus’s 50th anniversary. Munching on 50th themed treats and wearing 50th party hats, attendees posed for pictures in front of a massive 50th banner, snapped selfies with the UTM Eagle mascot and watched a slideshow of images from the past five decades on campus.
“I didn’t even know UTM was that old!” said Nicole Guimaraes, a second-year specialist biology student, holding a silver hat and a blue-and-white cake pop.
Several students mentioned the many banners and decorations appearing around campus to mark this milestone year. “It’s a long history, and I hope it keeps growing,” said Stellar Liu, a third-year political science and sociology student. “There are so many new buildings.”
But while the 50th anniversary celebrations are a welcome break, most students remain focused on their academic pursuits. “Right now, I’m just studying for exams!” laughed Franchesqua Fuerte, a second-year biology specialist.
