What can numbers tell us about history? What does it mean to deliver a "digital experience" to web users and why is this important for libraries? How does the Internet and electronic publishing impact the publishing market and, in turn, book acquisitions? What universal principles should govern the collection and use of information for digital mapping programs, such as Google Earth or GPS?  These are some of the questions tackled in this issue of Foreword, the University of Toronto Mississauga Library's e-newsletter.

This issue highlights the activities, resources and thinking within the Library's physical and virtual space. In "Transforming Libraries," Chief Librarian Mary Ann Mavrinac discusses the developing field of E-Science and the challenge it presents to academic libraries. In "Impact Factor," we outline the diversity and significance of learning spaces in the Library as well as some key electronic resources. In "Teaching with Technology," an interview with Professor Graham White, we learn about a gradual and effective introduction of technologies to support teaching and learning.

There's more.

I invite you to browse through this issue of Foreword and learn about the initiatives and discussions ongoing at the U of T Mississauga Library. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
