Library Advisory Committee

Ian B. Whyte

If you have recently joined U of T Mississauga, you may not be aware of a committee which is key to the Library's development. The Advisory Committee to the U of T Mississauga Library exists to advise the Chief Librarian and to provide a vehicle for information exchange among Library staff, faculty, and students on Library-related issues. The Advisory Committee is also part of the University of Toronto Mississauga's governance structure as a sub-committee of the Erindale College Council's Academic Affairs Committee.

Membership of the Advisory Committee includes two faculty members each from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences who are nominated by the Dean. Student representatives are comprised of one student from UTMSU, another from EPUS, and two graduate student representatives from UTMAGS. Two professional Librarians are also included as members of the committee on a rotating basis, as well as the Chief Librarian.

Issues of concern to community members are discussed and formal minutes are posted to the Library's website. For example, recent topics include the design of the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre, extended hours, study space issues, safety and security, GIS services, Scholars Portal, collections management, instructional technology assessment, and service quality assessment.

The Advisory Committee's terms of reference, current membership, and minutes are available online. If you are interested in learning more about the Advisory Committee or the process for participating, please contact Nga Foster.
