Open Access Week: Oct. 19 – 23, 2009

It will happen on university campuses around the world. 

Open Access Week 2009 is an opportunity for students and scholars worldwide to discuss and demonstrate the value of ‘openness’ to the growth of scholarly knowledge. At the University of Toronto, events will take place on all three campuses. Look for the Open Access Week logo in campus publications and on the U of T Mississauga Library’s website. 

At U of T Mississauga, two events sponsored by the Library will engage faculty, staff and students in conversations about Open Access and scholarly publishing. These events are:


Jump Start Open Access Week! A Pre–Open Access Week Event

When: Thursday, Oct. 15, 1–3 p.m.
Welcome to U of T Mississauga faculty, staff and students

Two engaging presentations:

1–2 p.m.
Scholarship and learning in an open access knowledge environment
Prof. Leslie Chan, B.A., M.A.
Senior Faculty, Dept. of Social Sciences, U of T Scarborough (UTSC); Program Supervisor, Joint Program in New Media Studies and the International Studies, UTSC; Faculty and Advisory Committee member, Knowledge Media Design Institute; Associate Director, Bioline International (a non-profit international electronic publishing collaboration with the objective of improving the visibility and impact of health and other scientific journals from developing countries). Chan is an international advocate of Open Access.
