ICCIT Opportunities

Out of the 120+ institutions U of T is partnered with, the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology (ICCIT) has identified these five (5) partners as the most meaningful and valuable to students in ICCIT programs.  Partners were selected due to their world rankings, research collaborations, unique program offerings, and distinct geographical areas.  

University of Sydney

Located in the largest city in Australia, close to many beaches and other prime locations such as the Sydney Opera House, the University of Sydney is considered the most international university in Australia with one fifth of its 50,000 students being international from 140 different countries. The University of Sydney operates collaboratively with many different industrial partnerships and other universities from around world contributing to ranking in the top 0.3 percent of universities worldwide.

Did You Know?

  • This university is on the border of the Central Business District and is surrounded by unique inner-city neighbourhoods such as Glebe and Newtown (has some of the best Thai food, meat pies, and ice cream in the city!)
  • Rozelle Campus (one of the many USyd campus’s) was formerly part of the Callan Park Lunatic Asylum for the Mentally and Criminally Insane
  • Founded in 1850 - which makes it Australia's first university

Nanyang Technological University

Nanyang Technological University was inaugurated recently in 1991 and has been ranked first in the world among universities under fifty years old in 2014. Currently it is ranked thirteen in the world amongst all universities and second in Asia.

Did You Know?

  • Singapore is also known as “the city in a garden” due to its vast amounts of nature reserves, parks, and flora
  • A student’s final year research project is using overhead projectors and depth-sensing camera to convert any tabletop into a work space through detecting objects and recognising hand gestures.
  • There are cats roaming around on campus! There are “cat cafes” on campus which allow cats to be fed and looked after in hopes of gaining their trust so they can be sterilised. This is done in hopes of controlling the cat population in the most humane way possible

National University of Singapore

The National University of Singapore is ranked first in Asia and twelfth in the world and is internationally respected for its high-quality research in science, technology, and the humanities. It houses three out of five of Singapore’s Research Centres of Excellence with focuses on quantum technologies, cancer, and mechanobiology.

Did You Know?

  • "The Deck" on campus is one of the only food courts in Singapore to be given the “Eco-Foodcourt label.” It was given this award based on its sustainable takeaway packaging,  water-saving devices, recycling of used cooking oil and waste plastic bag tax, and use of natural light
  • There is a “Hug Me” Coca-Cola machine on campus that dispenses a bottle of coke when you hug the machine
  • The British Council voted Singaporeans as having the fastest walking speed in the world. At an average of 18 metres in 10.55 seconds, they walk as fast as bees fly

University of Copenhagen

The University of Copenhagen is the largest institution of research and education in Denmark. Eight researchers from the university have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics and Medicine.  An Annual Commemoration is held in November where the Queen of Denmark regularly attends which is followed by a night at the Royal Danish Theatre or the Opera.

Did You Know?

  • Copenhagen was voted the “happiest and safest city in the world” in 2013 by the UN
  • Home of the Kronborg Castle, made famous by Shakespeare’s play Hamlet
  • Home to famous author Hans Christian Anderson, with a Little Mermaid statue to mark this landmark

Lancaster University 

In its 150 years of existence, Lancaster University has firmly placed itself among the UK’s elite universities with world leading research, excellent teaching and career prospects, as well as a gorgeous campus with award-winning facilities. In addition, it is in close proximity to the city centre of Lancaster while simultaneously surrounded by beautiful countryside. Road and rail links allow for efficient access to the Lake District National Park as well as the cities of Manchester, London, and Edinburgh.
