Housing Online Application ~ Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL:

Q: When does the application period open and close?
A: The housing application process opens March 31, 2011 and closes June 15th, 2011 at 4 p.m.  Please do not leave your application to the last minute. Late applications will be automatically placed on the waitlist.

Q: Do I have to line up at the Residence Services Desk to apply for residence?
A: No. The application process is entirely online at www.utm.utoronto.ca/housing, click “eRez” to begin the process.

Q: I tried logging in, and it wouldn't work.
A: You need to create an account first and you will receive your log in credentials in your email account. Please note: the first name field may include your middle name as well. Please try this before contacting our office.

Q: I cannot create an account with my first name and student number?
A: The housing application pulls information from the University of Toronto’s ROSI (Repository of Student Information)system. http://www.rosi.utoronto.ca/
Please use the first name that is indicated on that account.  This may be your first and middle name together.  If you are still having difficulties, please contact us.

Q: After I created my account, I did not receive the email, what do I?
A: With free email accounts such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc, you will have to remove the filter or block to allow <noreply@utoronto.ca> to your safe list.
Once this is done, please go back to the login page of eRez and click on 'forgot password' re-enter your email, to have the login credentials re-sent.

Q: Mirapay, the online payment system, doesn't allow me to input my credit card information.
A: Please make sure your pop-up blockers are off. A new page needs to open to enter the banking information.

Q: Can I pay in my country’s currency?
A: The only currency accepted for your housing deposit is Canadian.

UPPER YEAR APPLICANTS:

Q: How do I choose my roommates?
A: First, create a group of roommates. Name your group whatever you like. To add your roommates, you will need their student number or e-mail address that is indicated in their ROSI account. Each roommate will be successfully added by a green check mark.  A red ‘X’ means that the student has not applied to residence yet.
Once you have created your group, you will need to log in frequently to see if your potential roommates have accepted your request/invitation. OR continue to log in to see if you have received any invitations to be part of a roommate group.  Selecting roommates will be available until June 2nd, 2011.  After this date, no more changes can be made.

FIRST YEAR APPLICANTS:

Q: I just accepted my admission offer and I want to apply for residence, but it won't let me make an account.
A: There are daily imports for newly admitted students. If you can’t get through today, try again tomorrow.

Q: As a first year student, am I guaranteed housing?
A: A first year student is given a guarantee of housing when: (1) the student is admitted directly from high school, (2) the applicant indicated interest in residence on their initial OUAC application form, and (3) the student has met all of the required admissions and residence application deadlines.

Q: As a first year, can I choose my building and roommates?
A: As part of the first year rezONE program, students will be placed with other students from the same program to facilitate adaptation to university academics.
