Upper-Year Placement Process

Our upper year undergraduate communities are designed to provide you with the greatest opportunity for success. Living in residence in your upper years can positively influence your learning and academic performance by providing you extra time, opportunities to get involved and to get to know staff, faculty and peers – right here at home!

Please note that the number of upper year spaces is determined on how many spaces are remaining after the University of Toronto First Year Housing Guarantee applications have been received.

Upper Year Community:

  • Roy Ivor Hall (UTM Single - Suite Style)

More information about each community, including floor plans, can be found here.

Any applicant that receives an upper year residence offer or guarantee before June 11, 2018, will be eligible to self-select their room. Room self-selection occurs between June 11 and June 22, 2018. Applicants will be invited back to the application portal in the summer to select their room. If a student does not either (a) receive an offer of residence by June 11, 2018, or (b) select a room during the designated self-selection period, a room will be assigned based on availability. Availability in your preferred residence will be reduced and roommate requests are not guaranteed.

The following is taken into consideration when placing Upper Year students that did not self-select their room:

  • Reasonable accommodation requests for documented medical needs
  • Mixed-gender housing requests
  • Gender identity or gender expression
  • Room preferences and roommate requests

If an applicant applies after the March 2, 2018, deadline:

Any upper year applications received after the March 2, 2018, deadline will be automatically placed on the waitlist and admitted based on availability. Availability in their preferred residence will be reduced and roommate requests are not guaranteed.
