First-Year Placement Process

All first-year residence applicants will have the opportunity to rank their preferences for style of housing, but will not be able to indicate building or roommate preferences. Housing style preferences are not guaranteed

** Please note: MyRes (with a deadline of March 31, 2018) is the option to rank your campus preference for housing. The supplementary UTM - Undergrad 2018-2019 application on starportal (with a deadline of June 1, 2018) is where you will be given the option to rank your preference of housing style indicated below**

Moreover, to support your transition, your Don will live nearby to help answer questions, lead social events and create a sense of community. Additionally, applicants will have the option to opt-in to have a PAL (Peer-Academic Leader) who will run seminars and study sessions with students of the same program Our first-year communities make it easy to walk to class, review notes and study for exams with your neighbours and roommates!

Students entering their first year will have the opportunity to rank their preference for the following styles of housing:

  • UTM Single - Traditional
  • UTM Single - Townhouse
  • UTM Single - Premium Townhouse
  • UTM Single - Suite Style - No Longer Available
  • UTM Double - Premium Townhouse
  • UTM Double - Suite Style

The following is taken into consideration when placing First Year students:

  • Reasonable accommodation requests for documented medical needs
  • Preferences
  • Mixed-gender housing requests
  • Program of study
  • Gender identity or gender expression

During the application process, first-year applicants will not be able to indicate building or roommate preferences, but will have the opportunity to indicate housing style preferences. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate if they are interested in living in a mixed gender unit as well as submit any medical accommodation requests while completing the application.
