Biography

Ms Petrelli is the Managing Director, Head of Equities, for UBS Securities in Canada and in her role is responsible for all equity product to Canadian clients for global platform and represents the country in UBS’ global equity franchise. Lisa oversees all risk management in the region, and is senior lead for operating and regulatory oversight with Canadian regulators.

Lisa is an active participant within the UBS community supporting and promoting gender initiatives. As advisory member of UBS’ All Bar None, and committee member of both Women in Equities, and UBS’ Diversity and Inclusion committee, Lisa supports dynamic programming and recruitment of women for the firm.  Lisa currently serves on the Global Advisory Board for 100 Women in Hedge Funds, and is a Director for the UBS Securities Canada Inc. Board.

Ms Petrelli has volunteered her time on UTM’s Council for the Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre. She holds a Master’s degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, is a graduate of the University of Toronto Mississauga, and has been a CFA Charter holder since 2000. Ms Petrelli will begin her first term as Campus Council member, term ending on June 30, 2019.

Biography

Ms Ivana Di Millo is an award-winning communications professional with 25 years of experience leading corporate communications in areas of internal and external communications, media relations, issues management, program promotion, and marketing in a both private and public sector organizations. Ms di Millo is currently the Director of Communications at the City of Mississauga. In her role, Ivana championed the development and approval by Council of the City’s first Communications Master Plan, which was shared with over 60 municipalities.

Ms Di Millo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from UTM in 1988 and has been a long time resident of Mississauga and has also served on the UTM Alumni Association and has received the UTM Arbor Award.  Ms di Millo will begin her first term as Campus Council member, term ending on June 30, 2019.

Biography

Mr. Dario Di Censo has been volunteering at UTM in various capacities since 2004.  His many contributions to the University include serving on the UTM Alumni Association, Erindale College Council and the UTM Principal’s Advisory Council.  He has also been active in helping students by volunteering his time as a mentor and guest speaker.  Mr. Di Censo is the Chief Financial Officer of Armstrong Moving & Storage Ltd.  

Mr. Di Censo’s previous experience includes serving on the UTM Campus Affairs Committee since 2013.  Mr. Di Censo will begin his first term as Campus Council member, term ending on June 30, 2019. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UTM in 1988.

Biography

Samra Zafar is a Commercial Account Manager - Toronto Business and Professional Services at RBC Royal Bank. She was previously an Associate with the ABL group at RBC Capital Markets.

Samra is a multiple award winning graduate of the University of Toronto, a Public Speaker, an upcoming Author, and the Founder of Brave Beginnings, an organization dedicated to helping women find personalized mentorship, friendship and support to rebuild their lives after oppression and abuse. After overcoming severe challenges and adversity, Samra went on to graduate with a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and receive over a dozen awards and scholarships. She was the first mature student and woman of colour to win the John Moss Award, a $16,650 scholarship awarded annually to only one student from all three U of T campuses. She was awarded the Mother of the Year Award and was the recipient of the Spotlight Award by the Canada Pakistan Professionals Association and the Woman of Courage Award for being a community icon. Samra is very involved in the community and is an active board member of Interim Place, the largest shelter for abused women and children in the Peel Region.

Samra has appeared in several articles and TV interviews where she promotes education and empowerment, especially amongst women. She speaks at various events in GTA and was a recent speaker for the Couchiching Institute of Public Affairs and the International Women’s Day Conference by Amnesty International. She was also recently featured as the cover story in Generation Next magazine. Samra is currently in her first term as an alumni member of the Governing Council and a member of the UTM Campus Council.

Biography

For the last 12 years, Jay has been a partner with Gera & Nirula Professional Corporation, a chartered professional accountant Firm in Vaughan, Ontario. Jay earned his B. Comm. from University of Toronto in 1983, his CPA, CA designation with Ernst & Young in 1989, and his MBA from University of Phoenix in 2014. Jay continues his professional development through various professional development courses at CPA Ontario, York University, Kellogg School of Business, and other such organizations. His professional experience includes investment banking, transportation, manufacturing, corporate travel, leisure travel, and public accounting.

Jay volunteers for various organizations, such as, University of Toronto, Huron College at University of Western Ontario (guest lecturer), Professional Conduct Committee member at CPA Ontario, and Aim for Seva Canada, which raises funds to build schools and hostels for underprivileged children in India. In the past Jay has served on various not for profit boards, such as The Community Foundation of Oakville, has mentored students at high school, college, and university levels, and volunteered extensively for organizations, such as The Cancer Society, The Red Cross, and Junior Achievement. Mr. Nirula will begin his first term as Campus Council member, term ending on June 30, 2019.

Biography

Mr. Khan is Senior Manager, Business Strategy at RBC Financial Group and holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management.  Mr. Khan is very passionate about the development of youth has in the past mentored and coached youth in academics, extra-curricular activities and sports. 

Mr. Khan has been an active member of his community, serving on multiple non-profit boards.  Mr. Khan served on the Board for Bloor Information and Life Skills Centre, and as Vice-Chair of the Sheridan Park Elementary School Parent Council.   He has also completed the BoardMatch Canada training for Not-for-Profit Board members.  Mr. Khan lives in Mississauga with his wife (UofT alumna) and two daughters.

Biography

Ms Kaneff is General Counsel to the Kaneff Group of Companies, a private real estate development company that develops, designs, builds, manages and leases commercial retail, office and residential properties.  Kaneff Group also owns and manages six golf course properties.  In addition, Ms Kaneff serves as a member of the Board of Directors and as secretary for the Board meetings.

Prior to joining the Kaneff Group, Ms Kaneff was an Associate with a Canadian law firm in Toronto. Ms Kaneff earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Political Science) from Columbia University in New York, a Master of Science from Oxford University in England, and holds a J.D. from the Osgoode Hall Law School. Ms Kaneff is also President of the Ignat Kaneff Charitable Foundation and a member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Real Estate Executive Committee.  Ms Kaneff has been previously involved in York University's Advisory Council, Community Living Board of Governors and the Appleby College Board of Governors.

Ms Kaneff is serving her first term as Campus Council member, term ending on June 30, 2018.

Biography

Mr. Varty led and oversaw the delivery of professional services at KMPG as Partner, Audit for over 30 years.  Mr. Varty holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto Mississauga (1981) and has been involved in mentoring a number of commerce students from UTM for many years.   He also served as the National Chair for the KPMG Partner for Life Campaign with Canadian Blood Services.  Mr. Varty is enjoying early retirement in order to spend more time pursuing his business, community and personal interests as a mentor to business students. 

Mr. Varty is a member of the Fundraising and Communications Committee, Nature Conservancy of Canada, an Ontario Council Member for the Association of Canadian Pension Management (APCM) and a mentor for the Show Me The Green Competition at UTM.  He also volunteers as a ski instructor at Ontario Track 3 Ski Association for the Disabled.     Mr. Varty’s daughter is a student at UTM and is the third generation of the family to have the privilege of attending
U of T.  

Mr. Varty was first appointed in 2014 as alumni member of Campus Council, with a term ending June 30, 2017.

Biography

Mr. Thompson served as Deputy Minister in Ontario under Premiers from all three political parties and has a useful perspective on the working world graduates will join.  He is a social worker that has mentored recent graduates form the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto for the past number of years.  Mr. Thompson has had a rewarding career in public service and was the Deputy Minister for six provincial portfolios including; Housing, Labour, Municipal Affairs, Government Services, Energy and Correctional Services in the span of 16 years.  He previously led the Canadian Mental Health Association as Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Thompson received the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal of Distinction in Public Administration (2000) in recognition of public service work in Ontario and the Centennial Medial conferred by the Governor General of Canada for his work within the children and adult sectors of the Ministry of Correctional Services, Ontario.       

Mr. Thompson and his wife enjoy focusing on volunteer activities in the community such as the Art Gallery of Ontario and other non-profit organizations including Canadian Criminal Justice Association, Ontario Association for Corrections and Criminology, and many more. He is also a member of the Fund Development Committee at the Faculty of Social Work.  Mr. Thompson is serving his first term as member of UTM Campus Council.    

Mr. Thompson was first appointed in 2014 as alumni member of Campus Council, with a term ending June 30, 2017.
