Top two Awards from Canadian Soil Science Society to our Grad students

Great news from the Canadian Soil Science Society meeting in Quebec City. The society awards 3 student oral awards and Michael Preston and Michael McTavish earned the top two awards. Both are supervised by Professor Nate Basiliko.

1st Michael Preston "Microbial community structure and decomposition processes in peat soils of the James Bay Lowlands, Canada"

2nd Michael McTavish"Environmental factors influencing the immigration behaviour and dispersal of the invasive earthworm Lumbricus terrestris"

Best Master's Paper Presentation Award

Maria Mukhtar (Supervisors: Dana Wilson/Kathi Wilson) received the "best Master's paper presentation" award from the Geography of Health and Health Care study group at this year's annual CAG meeting for her presentation entitled "Promoting Successful Integration among Newcomers: Examining the Role of Settlement Services Providers in the Peel Region".

Geography students receive summer Research Fellowships

Four of our undergraduate students received well-deserved summer research fellowships. Congratulations to them and their supervisors.

Gurveer Bains is the recipient of a SSHRC UTEA working with Professor Kathi Wilson.

Stephanie Pugliese is the recipient of a Centre for Global Change Science Internship working with Professor Nate Basiliko.

Alycia Santilli is the recipient of a SSHRC UTEA working with Professor Kathi Wilson.

Alexander Tong is the recipient of a NSERC USRA working with Professor Yuhong He.
