FLC Student Assistants

FLC Student

Each year, the Finance Learning Centre hires student assistants to work part-time in the lab.

FLC Student Assistants are hired to:

  • provide peer support and assistance in the use of FLC databases and software;
  • answer basic business reference questions involving UTM Library business databases;
  • ensure the lab and infrastructure are well-maintained; and
  • have fun!

Helen joined the UTM Library and the Finance Learning Centre in December 2013.  She was previously a University of Toronto librarian cross-appointed to MaRS Discovery District, where she worked at MaRS Data Catalyst and as a senior member of the MaRS Market Intelligence team. Helen began her career as a professional librarian at the Rotman School of Management’s Business Information Centre.

Helen’s core responsibilities include:

  • Reference and research consultations for faculty, staff and students
  • Course support (in-class instruction, course guides, Blackboard, custom workshops) for
    • Department of Management
    • Department of Economics (in transition)
    • MMPA
    • MMI
    • MBiotech
    • MScSM
    • DIFA/MFAcc
  • Collection development for management, economics finance, accounting and IMI graduate programs
  • Day-to-day management of the FLC and the FLC Student Assistant Program
  • Planning, assessment and reporting for the Finance Learning Centre

Vivian joined the UTM Library team in 2017 as a Finance Liaison Librarian. She has three years experience working as a member of the Research Services team at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). As a Research Services Librarian at CPPIB, she provided a broad range of reseach, training, and information support to the organization and the Deals team staff. She also holds a Canadian Securities Course certificate and a Bloomberg Market Concepts certificate. She is currently working on obtaining a FactSet Financial Modelling certificate. 

Vivian's core responsibilities include:

  • Reference and research consultations for faculty, staff and students
  • Course support (in-class instruction, Course Guides, Blackboard, specialized tutorials) for:
    • Economics (effective July 1, 2017)
    • Management and other IMI programs in collaboration with Helen
  • Collection development for economics (effective July 1, 2017)
  • FLC communications (social media, FLC website, FLC newsletter
  • Day-to-day support for lab operations
  • Special projects
