On Tuesday, January 19th, 2016, Work-Study students from the Department of Management held the first ever Commerce & Management Opportunities Fair. The fair was geared towards providing students with information about all of the opportunities they have to get involved with the Department of Management along with councils, societies, resource centres and other related clubs on campus.

The first ever Department of Management Commerce & Management Opportunities Fair held on January 19th, 2016.

The Undergraduate Commerce Society, Student Management Association, Undergraduate Finance Association and DECA were some of the attendees who came out to this event to promote the leadership opportunities they offer students. This was a good opportunity for students to meet their fellow student leaders who impact the extra-curricular environment at UTM and make an impression before the upcoming recruitment seasons for next year's leadership roles. The students organizing this event remark that it "was designed to be a one-stop event for students to learn about all the different ways to get involved. What was innovative about this fair was that it took place right at the brink of the campus hiring season. All of the groups are beginning to recruit now and it was an ideal opportunity for students to network and learn more about the different opportunities."

Apart from volunteer opportunities, there were many other participants who were looking to display their job opportunities available for students. The Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre was one of the many employers who came out to advertise the annual Student Assistant positions which become available in late March. The Department of Management was another employer represented by their Work-Study students who gave other students an insight into what it's like working for the Department.

The event was a major success with over 100 students attending in the first 10 minutes. One of our own FLC Assistants, Hassaan Saleem was one of the main organizors of the event. "UTM offers so many ways to get involved such that selecting a group to join can be intimidating. It definitly helped [students who attended the fair] discover which groups they were interested in getting involved with", says Hassaan.

We'd like to congratulate the organizors of this event and remind students to keep a lookout for our Student Assistant applications for 2016-2017.
