Consider Where You'll Live
As a student it's important to have stable and comfortable housing in order to focus on your academic success, involvement outside of the classroom and overall enjoyment your university experience.
Living in Residence
Living in the residence can help make your transition to UTM easier by putting you in the heart of campus life - all within a five-minute walk to classes, the Student Centre and other campus hubs and facilities, with easy access to transit too.
The Residence Life team - Dons, Peer Academic Leaders and Program Assistants - are upper-year students eager to help you get connected to the community and become involved in student-planned events.
Living Off Campus
Finding off-campus housing can be difficult. That is why UTM is committed to helping students with their specific housing needs off campus as a local commuter.

Head Start: Head Start is a series of free interactive sessions specially designed to help you achieve academic success at UTM. Our goals are to help you understand the keys to make a smooth transition into university, and identify the skills you need to enhance your academic performance. You also have the chance to meet with many of your first-year instructors as well as librarians and senior students.
Summer Institute: The Summer Institute is a comprehensive transition program for incoming first year UTM students with learning disabilities. This two-day interactive program will provide participants with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to have a successful transition to the University's academic environment.
Summer Transition Programs
Feeling anxious about starting university? At UTM there are a large number of programs and workshops that will be available throughout the summer and academic year to help get you on the right track, feel more acquainted with your campus and its facilities and services so that you can enjoy your first year of university to the fullest.
Participating in these programs before the academic year will make your transition in September less overwhelming, and will increase your confidence level in succeeding in every aspect as a student at UTM.

The New Student Academic Orientation is your official first year welcome to UTM, providing you with an introduction to the key people and resources that you can access during your entire academic career here. The highlight of this new student orientation is "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life" a light-hearted but information packed theatrical production that follows four first year students - like you - as they encounter and overcome the trials and tribulations common to the first year experience.
This program will be of particular interest to new students coming to UTM from other countries, and also to students who live in Canada, but who may have recently moved here from abroad. Participants in this session will have the opportunity to learn more about the international community at UTM and meet with returning students who have been at UTM for several years, who can share their experiences and help you feel more at home.
The UTM Students' Union (UTMSU) Orientation aims to foster a sense of campus culture and unity while introducing you to other aspects of student life (in other words, you'll meet lots of new friends). UTMSU Orientation is by far one of the most memorable moments for many students. From the first day through to the last event, the week's events ignite a level of energy and school pride in every incoming student.
Orientation 2011
Orientation activities at UTM are designed to not only help you get a solid start for your university career, but also to help you connect with the wide range of services, programs and most importantly, the people who will become an important part of your time as a student.
We'll provide more information about Orientation 2011 in the next couple of months, but you can mark your calendar now to be here for Academic Orientation on Wednesday, August 31.
