Professor Conway’s research interests and teaching focus on human-environmental  interactions in urban, suburban, and exurban landscapes, drawing on insights from environmental geography, urban forestry, and environmental management to improve our understanding of relationships between people, policy, built form, and the physical environment in metropolitan areas.

Professor Havelka’s research interests and teaching include small-mammal ecology; restoration ecology; the ecology of the UTM whitetail deer population; Professor Havelka also carries out research on pedagogy and the development of curriculum-based tools for learning. She co-teaches a Summer Abroad course in the Andes, Amazon, and Galápagos Islands.

Professor Murck’s research interests and teaching include natural hazards, risk, and vulnerability; environmental issues in the developing world; and sustainability, including corporate sustainability in the mining industry. She co-teaches a Summer Abroad course in the Andes, Amazon, and Galápagos Islands, and carries out pedagogical research.

Professor Olive’s research interests and teaching focus on environmental justice; environmental policy in Canada and the U.S. Recent projects have included investigations of the political ecology of the Bakken Formation; Ontario landowners and endangered species conservation ; fracking in Canada; and Canada-US transboundary environmental policy & governance.

Professor Shear’s research interests and teaching include world freshwater resources; ecosystem science; economic and ecological perspectives on the environment; ecological and sustainability indicators for the Great Lakes; municipal sustainability indicators; and freshwater sustainability, hydrology, and lake nutrient regimes in Mexico. He also co-teaches our Internship course.
