Claire Depardieu-Rasheed, PhD

I have always been interested in plants and now I feel very lucky that working on plants has become a part of my job. 

I studied in France where I got my master's degree in plant physiology in 2009.

During my master 1 I worked on poplar and studied the response of stomatal conductance to ozone exposure and water stress (supervision:  D. LeThiec, INRA Champenoux, France). I also had the opportunity to work on a project studying the hydraulic properties of contrasting poplar clones in relation to their growth performance (supervision: D. Le Thiec and F. Brignolas, INRA d’Orleans, France).

During my master 2 I worked on root growth in poplar in response to water deficit (supervision: MB Bogeat-Triboulot, INRA Champenoux, France). I have been initiated on various techniques of plant ecophysiology and molecular biology.   

I completed my PhD in 2013 at the University of Franche-Comte, France on plant physiology and molecular biology (supervision: N. Capelli, J. Parelle and F. Tatin-Froux). My research aimed to characterize the hydraulic properties of two oak species, Quercus petraea and Quercus robur, which differ in tolerance to water-logging. During this study, the first objective was to determine if the two oaks differed in their hydraulic response to water stress. The second objective focused on the isolation of aquaporin genes in oak and the analysis of their relative expression in different root zones.

I joined the Ensminger lab as a postdoctoral fellow in October 2014. I am currently working on a project entitled “Screening tools for assessing adaptation of conifers to future climate” which aims to investigate the adaptation and acclimation of Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus) to abiotic stresses. I am working on next generation sequencing data in a context of seasonal changes. I am also involved in a project developing an eFP Browser for Eastern white pine, in collaboration with Nick Provart and Rohan Patel (University of Toronto).
