Award: The Harold Sonny Ladoo Book Prize for Creative Writing

Eligibility: Awarded to a UTM student, either full-time or part-time, in memory of Harold Sonny Ladoo who published his first novel in 1972.
Financial Need: Not required
Application Process:

Competitors may submit one or more of the following:

  1. A long poem or a group of short poems
  2. A short story or a group of short stories
  3. A novel or the scheme of a novel accompanied with approximately 15,000 words of the novel itself
  4. A play

Submission of two typed copies (each copy to be enclosed in a binder), under a pseudonym, to the Registrar's Office, Admissions and Awards at UTM by the deadline. A separate envelope containing the pseudonym, the name of the candidate, and his/her student number must accompany the submission.
No previously published composition will be accepted.

Award: The JoAnna Dutka Award
Awarding Department: English and Drama
Year of Study: IV
Eligibility: Awarded to students at UTM intending to pursue graduate work in English on the basis of financical need. Academic merit also taken into consideration. Proof of application to at least one university with the intent to study in a M.A. Program in English is required.
Financial Need: Required
Application Process: Submission of proof of application to at least one university with the intent to study in a M.A. Program in English to the Office of the Registrar, Awards and Admissions office by March 1st. Preference will be given to students who have applied to the University of Toronto.

Award: The R.W. Van Fossen Award in English
Awarding Department: English and Drama
Year of Study: Any
Eligibility: Awarded to a student enrolled in the English specialist program on the basis of financial need. Academic merit will also be considered. Perference will be given to students who have completed year III. Further registration in the English Specialist Program at UTM is a requirement of the award.

Application Process: Application required or recipients must have been identified as having financial need based on the Universities criteria.

Award: The V.A. De Luca Book Prize
Awarding Department: English and Drama
Year of Study: III and above
Eligibility: Awarded to a part time or full time student on the basis of outstanding written work in a 300- and 400- level English course.The student must have an otherwise satisfactory standing. A student will be ineligible to receive this prize more than once.
Financial Need: Not required
Application Process: No application required, students are recommended for this award by English and Drama.
