CPS Departmental Computer Grant

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides graduate students funding towards purchasing a personal computer.

Student Eligibility

The computer grant is open to all PhD students who are affiliated at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and supervised by a CPS faculty member (to be appropriately identified in ROSI as affiliated to UTM students need to complete and submit to the Dean the SGS Affiliation Form).

Grant Purpose

The grant provides PhD students funding towards purchasing a personal computer to assist with their research initiatives and academics. The Computer Grant is a one-time request for a maximum of $1,000.

Application Process & Deadlines

There is no formal application process for the computer grant. Students should contact the Manager, Finance and Operations of their intention to take advantage of the grant. The manager will verify eligibility, consult with the graduate supervisor and confirm if the student can proceed to purchase.

Grant requests will be accepted up to approximately 1 year prior to graduation.


Computer grant requests will be awarded to all eligible applicants providing the allotted funding for the granting year has not been exhausted. If the total sum of grant requests exceeds the allowable funding, approval of remaining requests will be subject to Chair approval.

Expense Eligibility & Reimbursement

Students must submit an expense reimbursement claim for the computer purchase. The template created for the sole purpose of computer expense claim reimbursement is available here. Complete and sign the form and submit it, along with the original receipt, to the Manager, Finance and Operations.
