Office of the CIO
As CIO my responsibility is to develop strategies (including fiscal strategies) for obtaining, distributing and maintaining relevant technological resources with UTM. Identify opportunities and provide guidance in the analysis, design, development and implementation of innovative technological solutions to enhance program delivery, research, and administrative service capacity at UTM. In essence, it means delivering effective and efficient IT resources, services and technologies to all members of the University of Toronto Mississauga community in support of the University mission.
The CIO has overall responsibility and accountability for the administration of Client Services, Network Services and Web Technology Services at UofT Mississauga. Service priorities are determined according to the scope of the problem and who it may affect:
- To coin a phrase from Mr. Spock, “the needs of the many outweigh the need of the few or the one.” Priority is given to any problem which affects the most number of users, e.g. network connection to St. George, database server, web server.
- Departmental or Building, e.g. network in the Kaneff Centre, departmental share directory
- Problems which affect the general productivity of an individual or of a class, e.g. malfunctioning hard drive on a desktop computer
- Problems which limits the effectiveness of an individual
- New hardware or software installations
The CIO chairs the Computing Committee, a standing committee of Erindale College Council and the IT Technical Operations Committee. The terms of reference for the Computing Committee are as follows:
