Focus on Abilities - Internships

While there are some internship and recruitment programs specifically for persons with disabilities there are many more open to all. Students with disabilities are highly encouraged to compete for these valuable career building experiences, some of which are listed below! See our tipsheet on internships, and links to other on campus experience building opportunities. There are many ways to build experience in extracurricular activities, faith communities, and outside the university through volunteering and paid work. Make an appointment to develop a plan for building valuable experience for your career.

RBC

Pursue Your Potential at RBC – a program designed to give persons with disabilities a volunteer-based placement.   Opportunities for joining the team in a paid-format is possible & if that occurs, RBC has a “Disability Employee Resources Group-REACH” program that allows individuals with different disabilities to connect and network with each while professionally developing.

BMO Internship (Partnered with Lime Connect Canada)

The BMO Financial Group Internship Program for Students with Disabilities is a program designed to attract talented students enrolled full-time in post-secondary education in Canada. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship, compete for a paid summer internship and ultimately land a job at graduation with BMO Financial Group. Comprehensive training, coaching and mentoring will all be provided to set you on the path for success.

AccessibilityWorks: the Abilities Connect Fund  

The Abilities Connect Fund creates a more integrated Ontario labour market and improves the career trajectory of persons with a disability. The program creates experiential learning employment opportunities for postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities. The Fund helps to remove financial barriers associated with workplace accommodations. 

Ontario Internship Program

Ontario Internship Program provides paid internships available across a wide spectrum of fields (communication, economics, health, etc).  Stated intent to accept and accommodate persons with disabilities as part of the program as well. 

The Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP)

The Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) provides students with learning opportunities through valuable, hands-on work experience.  

Shaw Media Internship

Shaw Media Internships for Students with Disabilities: opportunities to work in private television; internships valued at $10, 000. Must be a student at an accredited post-secondary institution(in the field broadcasting, journalism, tv, etc.) in Canada with the plan to return to school the following year.
