Research

Research in my lab is directed at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate the development and function of neurons. We use multidisciplinary approach in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, to create genetic mutants and transgenic flies that perturb genes involved in neural function and development and then assay the effects of the mutations using electrophysiology, biochemistry, electron microscopy and imaging.

There are currently three main areas of research:

  1. Analysis of development and function of neuromuscular synapses in mutants of the NSF2 gene.
  2. Structure and functional studies of the n-syb gene.
  3. Homeostatic mechanisms governing synaptic transmission.
