Kristen Loritz (HBA 2016)

Kristen Loritz, HBA'16Marketing Coordinator, Splash Effect

U of T Mississauga alumna Kristen Loritz knows about hard work and dedication. In 2009, at the age of 16, Loritz began a competitive skating career as a member of the NEXXICE senior synchronized skating team. The Burlington, Ontario team went on to nab top spot in the Canadian Championships that year. It was the beginning of a winning streak that would continue for the next six seasons. NEXXICE went on to set records at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia and racked up six international medals, three World silver medals, seven Canadian Championship titles and become the first-ever Canadian and North American squad to win the World Champion title in April 2009. As co-captain, Loritz led the team to a second World Championship gold in front of a hometown crowd in Hamilton, Ontario. Inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame in 2016, Loritz holds two personal records as the youngest Canadian synchronized skating world champion and as the most successful synchronized skater in Canadian history.

Despite her intensive training schedule, Loritz prepared for the next phase of her career by enrolling in UTM's Professional Writing and Communication and Communication, Culture and Information Technology program. Her published work has appeared in The Medium, as well as in UTM journals, Mindwaves and Compass, International Figure Skating Magazine and  Mississauga Youth Anthology Vol. III. She served as the editor-in-chief of Compass in 2016. Loritz was a digital content intern with the Canadian Olympic Committee during the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. In September 2015, she launched Doubleexposed.ca, a portrait project that documents Torontonians and their stories.

Currently working as a marketing coordinator with Splash Effect, Loritz also continues to share her skating expertise by leading skating seminars and coaching across Canada, the United States, Scotland, Iceland and Great Britain.
