Sven Spengemann, BSc'90
Member of Parliament, Mississauga-Lakeshore, Liberal Party of Canada

Sven Spengemann was born in Berlin, Germany and moved to Canada with his family at age 14. He particularly enjoys working with young people who are embarking on their career path and is an active member of the community of Mississauga-Lakeshore. He volunteers at the Compass Food Bank and serves on the Board of Directors of United Way of Peel Region (currently on leave) and the University of Toronto Mississauga Alumni Association. Sven is also an Advisor to the Peel Multicultural Council.

Spengemann’s academic qualifications include degrees from the University of Toronto Mississauga and Osgoode Hall Law School at the Collège d’Europe. He was a Canada-US Fulbright Scholar and earned his doctorate at Harvard Law School.

Spengemann's professional experience spans the private sector, academia, government and international affairs. He served as a senior United Nations official in Iraq, where he led a team of experts in support of the Iraqi Parliament. Sven also worked for a major Canadian bank and in the Privy Council Office in Ottawa. He held affiliations at the Munk School of Global Affairs, the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the Glendon School of Public & International Affairs.

Sven is currently the member of parliament for the riding of Mississauga-Lakeshore. In his spare time, he is an avid mountaineer, motorcyclist and private pilot.
