Madiha Khan (HBSc'09)

Madiha KhanGraduate Student, MASc, Biomedical Engineering

Madiha received her HBSc in Biology and Philosophy from the University of Toronto Mississauga in June 2009. She graduated as class valedictorian and holds a number of university-wide awards ranging from program-based scholarships to the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award.

Since graduation she has worked hard to ‘measure up’ to her privileges by volunteering her time and skills for several local and international initiatives. She has helped build schools in the Dominican Republic, conducted qualitative research on lake water management in Mexico, and organized leadership and professional development conferences for her community’s youth.

Khan is currently completing her MASc in Biomedical Engineering at McMaster University and a Graduate Diploma from the United Nations University in Water without Borders. Her studies combine the rigor of a traditional university graduate program with the policy training and capacity development experience of a United Nations center of excellence focused on the global water crisis. She has recently returned from Kenya, Africa where she examined ongoing water projects and sampled water quality using experimental test-kits.

In her spare time, Khan enjoys competitive rowing, biking and reading.
